YA fiction related to bullying- Wonder

Wonder by R.J. Palacio

Wonder stars August Pullman who has been homeschooled up until middle school because of health issues and the demanding surgery schedule that goes with it, a specifically craniofacial abnormality which is a group of deformities in the growth of head and facial bones.
Auggie’s parents have begun to think about the big picture and decide to send him to public school where he is greeted by three kids that are the welcome committee, Charlotte and Jack are nice, but Julian is not, and at lunchtime Auggie eats alone.
Fast forward to where a girl named Summer sits with him because she feels bad for him and in the end, they end up close friends, after getting over his appearance Jack realizes that Auggie is a cool kid but lacks the confidence to stay his friend and hurts Auggie’s feelings by bad mouthing him.
Auggie swears to never come back to school, but his sister talks him out of it passing this off as a learning experience, after seeing where he went wrong Jack makes up with Auggie.  Once Jack returns from his Christmas break to school, he finds himself a social reject because of his choice to stay friends with Auggie. The class then goes on a campout where Auggie and Jack go for a walk when some 7th graders verbally and physically hurt Auggie because of the way he looks; lucky for him a few kids from his grade step in and help him which results in the loss of his expensive hearing aids and a few torn clothing items.
Although exhausted and hurt from the night’s events Auggie is thankful the kids that once bullied him stepped up for him and they pledge to continue to do so.
In the end, the other kids in school finally accept him for who he is and not what he looks like and 5th grade ends on a good note.
